What color LED light is best for planted aquarium?

2024-01-02

Aquarium plants utilize the entire spectrum of colors for photosynthesis, but a red/blue spectrum is preferred due to its ability to enhance coloration and promote higher pigmentation in plants. This is why using plain white LEDs in aquariums is not recommended.

Your objective should be to achieve a balanced spectrum while emphasizing red and blue light. The arrangement of an aquarium is also considered an art, with aesthetics playing a significant role. Fortunately, manufacturers now provide spectrum charts for their products, simplifying the process for aquarium enthusiasts.

Here's a helpful tip from experts: allocate at least 50% of the spectrum to red lights and limit blue lights to no more than 15%. This approach is based on the fact that some plants can absorb up to 75% of the total red light, while blue light is not as crucial for many internal plant processes. The goal is to optimize the situation.

To balance the remaining spectrum, consider incorporating a color like orange. Don't discount green lights, as plants reflect this color, and human eyes are naturally sensitive to it.
