Can soft corals get too much light?

2023-05-30

When corals are exposed to excessive light, they can undergo certain negative changes. These changes include shrinking up, retracting polyps, becoming bleached white, closing, and even experiencing tissue loss. If you notice these signs in a newly acquired coral, it is important to take appropriate action to promote its recovery.
One effective step is to relocate the affected coral further away from the primary light source within the aquarium. By moving it to the bottom or sides of the tank, the coral can experience a decrease in direct light exposure. This adjustment can help alleviate the stress caused by excessive light and provide a more suitable environment for the coral's well-being.
Additionally, it is crucial to be patient during the recovery process. Corals may require a significant amount of time to bounce back from light-induced stress. It is recommended to allow a recovery period of 2-3 months or potentially longer, depending on the severity of the coral's condition.

By giving the coral ample time and a more suitable light environment, it can regain its health and vitality. Monitoring the coral's progress and providing optimal conditions, such as proper lighting, water parameters, and adequate nutrition, will further support its recovery.

Our coral LED light system features six channels, allowing individual dimming from 0 to 100 brightness. This enables you to tailor the lighting settings to suit the specific needs of the coral species you have, ensuring ideal conditions for their growth and overall health.
