When water rich in algae cells, bacteria, viruses, and plankton flows through the sealed UV irradiation chamber driven by a submersible pump, UVC photons directly penetrate the cell walls of these microorganisms. High-energy UVC disrupts the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) structures within their nuclei. This photochemical damage immediately renders the microorganisms incapable of reproduction and can even cause direct cell death.

This entire process is purely physical. After thorough exposure to UV light, the water exiting the device is "disinfected," with algae spores rendered inactive.
